Founded in 1924, The Maryland State Society of Washington, DC serves as a social and civic organization that celebrates the culture, history, traditions, and people of Maryland.
The Maryland State Society is passionate about bringing together the people of Maryland and representing our state culture in the nation’s capital. Maryland has one of the oldest state societies and serves as a member of the National Conference of State Societies. Membership is open to anyone who wishes to devote him or herself to to the fostering of goodwill among Marylanders at home and in the nation’s capital.
One of the Maryland State Society’s flagship programs is to participate in the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival. Every year, the society sponsors one young woman to serve as Maryland Cherry Blossom Princess. New for 2019 is a Princess partnership with Howard County's Blossoms of Hope which serves to plant cherry blossom trees in the county and benefit the Claudia Mayer/Tina Broccolino Cancer Resource Center.
