MDSS History

Maryland is one of the oldest state societies. It was founded in 1919 and became very active in 1924. The Maryland State Society is a member of theĀ National Conference of State Societies.   Copy of an article in the Washington Post from April 27, 1924.

Millard Tydings was a famous Democratic political leader respected by both parties in Maryland who became Speaker of the Maryland House in Annapolics and later became a U.S. Representative and a U.S. Senator. There are things in Maryland named after him such as the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge.
